Why is that Nigeria is not included in this Africa/middle east category?

Travel Info
It is just unfair to find out that the 'most significant' black nation is left out of the segments. Nigeria is a representaion of what Africa is all about. Indeed, Africa's uniqueness is the very essence of her beauty and grace. I really don't care how much negative words are employed to describe Africa. Its not what name people call you that matters, Its the name you answer to that distinguishes you.

Welcome to a place of endless possibilities; a land flowing with milk and honey; a land blessed with endearing landscape and forms blended with man-made possiblities. A land adorned with gorgeous, smart and warm people. A land i call home.Welcome to Nigeria. The Land of Plenty.

Travel Tips
You need to get out more, Olajide. Unfortunately, that's just reality. And in this reality, perception is everything.

While it's easy to look at the vastness of the opportunities in Nigeria, and muse about the potential influence Nigeria could have on global affairs, especially with that huge population, the truth is Nigeria is an insignificant blip in global affairs.

Our only true claims to fame are our supply of oil to the energy market and our peacekeeping activities (and, oh, our football as well). However, our peacekeeping activities are infinitessimal compared to the kinds of armed conflict subsaharan africa is presently going through while our oil production appears to be dispensable and expendable. (For instance, a total removal of Nigeria's oil would increase the price of gas in the U.S. by $0.05c - $0.15c in the U.S. and the price will revert to normal amounts within 3 months, according to newswire reports.) I doubt that global energy supply would not adjust accordingly if our oil ran out. The pont is: Nigeria gives nothing that is indispensable.

I doubt that anyone who's lived in Nigeria would sincerely agree with your 2nd paragraph either. Nigeria does not have 'endless possibilities'. Not until corruption in LOW PLACES ceases to be an acceptable norm. Nigeria isn't flowing with milk and honey either - neither literally nor figuratively. Our minerals and raw products are not - relatively - more abundant than say the gold/diamonds returns in Ghana/S.Africa in proportion to the population those minerals have to serve. I'm not sure about the endearment to landscape and forms - that is so subjective. It's hard to love the landscape when you're perennially interrupted by those daylight jobbers in military uniform stopping your car every other mile. I know that a majority of the people I've met are not warm either and they don't have 'plenty'. I lived in Lagos, Abuja, the Niger Delta, and in the East; I don't know where you live.

However, what Nigeria does have is the potential to lead that entire sub-region, and perhaps, the whole continent out of the darkness that it faces. It's people have the innate capacity to command a new future for the continent. It is important that you realize how far the rest of the world has left us behind. The world has shifted to the prevalence of service provision over the sale of commodities. The world considers free basic education a forgone conclusion; many parts of the world assume that a university degree is a staple. Certain diseases are so remote that developed countries teach them in history class - literally. It is the same diseases that we still struggle with contemporarily.

What I can agree with you on however, is that for as long as we continue to pander to the international community when it suits us, while rejecting its standards when we wish, our relevance will remain obscure. The international community does not need us. We need it. We cannot choose what the standards for humanity are for the 21st century and beyond. We must elevate our game to catch up with the world.

Until we do that... nobody cares what you call Nigeria...even if you call it home.

I agree that Nigeria should have its own category. Many questions are asked about Nigeria. Since Nigeria does contain 1 out of every 6 people in the entire African continent, it is a very important nation. Algeria was recently added to Yahoo, so perhaps if you suggest a "Nigeria" category, they will also add it!
