Travel Tips national football team Others Goree island off the coast of Dakar is famous for its past: it's one of the places that slaves were gathered and put in boats to the new world. St. Louis is the former capital of Senegal and is a quaint village now with former colonial style architecture. It looks a lot like New Orleans' French Quarter. In Dakar, there's great shopping with lots of African crafts from around western Africa. There's nice music and restaurants as well. Youssou N'Dour owns a club in town and sometimes will play there if he's in town. It has nice beaches and good diving. People wear very colourful clothing. There's also a few national parks to see animals (one is a bird sanctuary). The football team defeated France a few years ago in the World Cup and is one of the best teams in Africa so it's exciting to see a match if you can while there. was in Senegal two years ago. |
