What is the story with Saudi Arabia and Dhubai? |
Travel Info I always thought these countries were desert countries where the only focus in life is Islam. Now, I hear of mega skyscrapers, modern cities, wealth, and shopping. I am so confused. I even heard that the Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia has a floor only for women. I don't understand. Are Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates very traditional muslim countries, or are they more westernized and express more tolerance for other religions etc? Maybe I'm naive saying this but I really am confused. Travel Tips Both countries are Islamic countries. Saudi Arabia is a Kingdom and Dubai is one of the 7 Emirates (UAE) with Abu Dhabi as it capital. Abu Dhabi is not less developed than Dubai. Both countries are very modern countries and are very well developed. Skycrapers, super hotels, man made islands and much more. While KSA is a very strict Islamic country going only by the Sharia law with all it's restriction, Dubai and the UAE in general are much more westernized. KSA is the only country in the world where women are not allowed to drive and they HAVE to wear the abaja and the hijab. The Koran is KSA's constitution. In KSA you'll find places and even malls for "women only". Houses have a men and a ladies sitting room. What the answerer above wrote about Dubai regarding liquor is not really right. There are many, many clubs, pubs and bars which are licensed to serve spirtis and you can buy alcohol and pork meat in regular stores. Of course there are closing hours like every where else, too. No local woman in the UAE runs around with a "fishnet". Some wear the hijab, some don't. The burqa is only worn in Afghanistan. Surf the net and you will find more than enough information on both countries to build up your own mind. Take care Source(s): living in Abu Dhabi/UAE Other Travel Tips they are stil very strictly moslems and islamic countries. They do have those skyscapers to attract tourists, and they want to look modern to the rest of the world. They do have a floor only for women because they stil wont let them share anything with man. I bet they also have a separate sitting for women in restaurants,or in busses. No matter how hard they try to look western, they are not. No matter how much money th茅y have they sure dont know how to spend it. The men spent it on escorts, the women who knows. No its not a country i would want to visit. Dubai is a city that is planning for the future, they are promoting the emirate as a tourism and business center and want to make it a landmark by building skyscrapers by the dozen and the worlds 7 star hotel, several man made islands which will be visible from the moon, and will add hundreds of miles of coastline to the country, theya re also building a winter theme park for skiing with artificial snow, among other incredible things, This Emirate is part of the other 6 less developed Emirates, they have great roads and highways, modern businesses and hotel and restaurant chains. They know that they will run out of oil and are smartly investing and betting in tourism to sustain their country. Most of the population are immigrants from India, Phillipines, africa, russia and other neighboring countries that work in construction or hotels. It remains a muslim country with its traditions but they are opening themselves to tourism by also being a little bit more lenient in there traditions and respecting other peoples beliefs, however they are still very strict compared to other western countries. Liquor is served only in certain hotels and closed at certain hours on the dot, everyone is kicked out of the few bars that cater to tourists, most tourists will probably only meet other immigrants that are living in the country, the locals dress in their traditional clothing and the women only show their eyes sometimes others hide their eyes behind a fishnet . only a few years ago Dubai was another desert country but the speed of growth is changing that to a modern city. |
