It is safe for a syrian to be in the heights. There has NEVER been a terrorist attack in the Golan Heights. It is the safest area in all the middle east. An American in Syria is relatively safe. It really depends, if you want to know for sure contact the US Embassy in Syria and ask what the travel conditions are like. They will give you specific detail on where NOT go to in Syrian at this time. hope this helps I was in Damascus last summer and I would say Syria was a very safe place to visit. Crime against tourists is almost non existant (although when you buy something or take a taxi ride, the locals will try to charge you 2 or 3 times what any other local would pay... be prepared to negotiate). Every Syrian has a great sense of national pride and I was asked all the time what I thought of their country. It was very important to them that I enjoy their country and I understand that all Syrians are not terrorists. I really enjoyed that trip and I will definatly be going back at some point in my life. About Syrians in the Golan Heights, I think its a safe place for them.
