United States of Africa - a log in our own eyes? |
Travel Info The rest of the world sees Africa as one homogenous block (especially Americans), yet when we debate the idea of a united Africa in a political and economic sense (e.g. the EU or even the US), we Africans have huge issues with it. My question in plain English is, do you think we can ever have a United States of Africa? If not, why not? Why do we as Africans have such an issue with it when the whole world sees us as one troubled block anyway? Travel Tips I'm surprised anybody would be so blatantly racist as to suggest,as Gratvol does above,to other countries that they should redesign their borders in order to segregate differing ethnic groups from each other. Sounds kind of jewish, frankly. I see no obstacle to a Greater African Union, consisting of the larger and/or more stable nations, with others remaining outside or joining later. I also think the Russian confederation would be a better model than the US or EU. Others No no no Because africa is plagued with deception and greed, like it always has been, like when they sold thier own people off to the white slaveholders, or the mass slaughtering of thier own people in recent years, greed is rampant in africa... Aids is passed very easily and people dont care if they pass it on... its really a bad situation, always has been... I think that would be great. But it will never happen. There are too many countries, and too many political leaders in Africa who would not be willing to give up their power for such a cause. They are trying something like that. Its called the African Union. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/african_uni... I think it is supposed to be like the EU. The only problem is parts of Africa are constantly plagued with war and corruption. Not to mention health issues. Personally I think part of the problem might be solved if all the African nations sit down and start redrawing their borders along ethnic/religious lines. At least that way their will be less internal conflict. Another problem is that they are starting too big with this AU thing. It should be started with a few stable nations either in Northern or Southern part of Africa. Then it should slowly expand like the EU has. This is not meant to be offensive but, Africa will never be a US , and maybe thats a good thing. Leaders are greedy and easily influenced, countries are volatile and hence investor confidence is lacking. Africa is rich in commodities and cannot prosper due to its cultures and US bear attitude stealing from them Uncivilised, High crimes, etc |
