When visting Victoria Falls, what country should I transit through?

Travel Info
Should I land and head to the falls through Zambia or go through Zimbabwe. Also when staying overnight which area is safer and better kept.

Travel Tips
The views are better from the Zambian side. Zimbabwe these days is also not the best place to visit. There's more places and development on the Zimbabwe side.

Victoria Falls are one of Africa's major tourist attractions, and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The falls are shared between Zambia and Zimbabwe, and each country has a national park to protect them and a town serving as a tourism centre: Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and Livingstone in Zambia, and Victoria Falls National Park and the town of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe Source(s): http://www.safpar.com/victoria_falls/ind...

Other Travel Tips
With the security problems Zimbabwe are having, I would suggest it better to transit through Zambia.

However, if you are flying, it would be safe to fly to the Falls via Harare or Bulawayo.

There are excellent and safe hotels on both sides of the border. Nowhere can beat the Victoria Falls Hotel, on the Zim side, in my opinion, although the other hotels also have high star ratings. If you don't want to splash out mega-money, there are many smaller and equally safe lodges and camping grounds. The same goes for the Zambian side.

At the moment the Zambezi river is full and viewing from both sides are magnificent, albeit, a trifle wet from the spray.

No matter which country you decide to stay in, both sides warrant visiting. You can bungi jump on both sides, although I think only in Zimbabwe, from the Falls Bridge. Both sides have game reserves and a little further afield, on the Zim side, there is the Hwange Game Reserve, where tip-top accommodation is available.

My daughter-in-law has just returned from Zimbabwe, after visiting friends and family. She assures me, that at no time did she feel unsafe and that although the country is experiencing shortages of electricity and water, it did not seem to affect Victoria Falls (the town).

If travelling by car, remember the chronic fuel shortage in Zimbabwe.

Enjoy your trip, if you so decide to go. I envy you.
I have just come through there a couple of months ago. we drove in through Zimbabwe and stayed in vic falls for about 4 days. The views of the falls were better from the Zim side as it was low water time. But there are more activities to do on the Zambia side. If you stay on the zim side you can get a day visa for $10US and go to zambia to do activites. Zim is cheaper but zambia is safer. We didn't experience any safety issues as Vic falls is such a tourist place they just sort of left us alone. there is 70% unemployment in zambia so i can definetly suggest going to the markets. take lots of old stuff for trading, they prefer that to money some times.
