Where should I go in Africa? |
Travel Info My boyfriend and I are just beginning to discuss a trip to Africa. I have no idea where to start. We want to see lots of wilderness, scenery and wildlife in safari. I know this is kinda vague but which countries and game preserves should I start looking into. Where so you think is the best. I'm not looking for luxury in 5 star ritzy places either. I want good african experience that is safe. Travel Tips The best parks for animals that I have been to are: Lake Nakuru Nat'l Park in Kenya (tons of rhinos, flamingos, baboons, zebras etc...) Masai Mara Nat'l Preserve in Kenya (everything, although more spread out) Lake Manyara Nat'l Park in Tanzania (elephants and monkeys everywhere you look in a dense forested environment) Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania (again pretty much everything) I didn't go to the Serengeti in Tanzania, but the Serengheti and the Masai Mara are pretty much the same thing In Kenya, all safaris start off in Nairobi, in Tanzania all safaris start off in Arusha. Most trips will combine one or more of the parks. For example trips I have been on: One day at Lake Nakuru, then three days at Masai Mara. Another one was: one day at Lake Manyara and one day at Ngorongoro. Lodgings on safari depend on what you pay, really expensive trips will have you stay in hotels but lesser expensive ones will have you camping out. since I'm only 22 and having not much money, I did the camping, which was a lot of fun. Have fun! Others i live in rwanda. my dad is a CD(country director) for an NGO called Food for the Hungry International(FHI) and if you want to know about rwanda, kenya uganda burundi and south africa( i have been to those places and know people about thoses places and some good game parks like akagera) then just IM me- kigalifanny@yahoo.com The best wildlife I have seen was in the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. There is so much to see. Down fall is there are so many trucks out on safari with other tourists. I have heard if you are there during the migration season watching the wild beasts is amazing as well. Visited Kruger National park (South Africa)....it wasn't bad but a little to commercialized for me with the paved roads. Must see Victoria falls........amazing. Canoeing down the Zambezi river with the hippos and crocs was a lot of fun as well. There are so many other national parks in Africa. These are the ones I have experienced and some others. The Lonely Planet has a great book on Africa. It was a humbling experience. Safe travels. Tanzania and Namibia would be good places to consider. Kenya has great wildlife but it is a bit more dangerous; Joburg in South Africa is also a nasty city to start in due to the crime, but they also have great animal parks. Other countries to consider are Zambia (the falls) and Malawi. Go to Ethiopia. I am from there and it is so beautiful and laid back. It is not all what you see on FEED THE CHILDREN. It is full of history and adventures, i cant wait to go back! my childhood Here in SA is a lot of great place that is unbelievable and will not cost an "arm & leg". Try searcing on google -SA for lodges in Pilansberg SA & Kruger national Park (you get the best true life sa feeling there - in the heart of the national park and still you are safe and very very at home. |
