Travel Info Land area of northern africa.people.colonization and language? Travel Tips According to the UN, North Africa consists of Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia. The disputed territory of Western Sahara is also included in North Africa. Arabic is common to all, with French being a common second language (and English becoming more popular). Berber, which is similar (distantly related) to Arabic is widely spoken as well. After the 19th century, it was colonized by France, the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy. In World War II from 1940 to 1943 the area was the setting for the North African Campaign. During the 1950s and 1960s all of the North African states gained independence. There remains a dispute over Western Sahara between Morocco and the Algerian-backed Polisario Front. Geographically, others also include Egypt, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Chad and Sudan in north Africa. Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/north_afric...
