Travel Tips
Hi, first of all, you're welcome to Jordan. I'm jordanian and I live in Jordan.
For renting an apartment, all the guys here were talking about the best and most expensive places in jordan, like abdoun, and they were talking about big apartments. I think you can find cheaper apartments in a good places, you can find apartments from 100 m2, 200 m2, depending on the area that choose, you can get one from about 300 dollars, but this one would be smaller, and you will need to put forniture, though you can find ones with forniture, but would be more expensive.
For working, although there are many educated jordanians who are unemployed, yet you can find a job, for example:
1. English teacher, in a forien school like: American school, American community schoo ..etc. or in a center or academy like: American Language Center, or any other one that it is a mandatory to be american in order to work there.
2. Some international and multicultural companies, those companies that think it would be a better idea to have foriegners in addition to jordanians.
3. In some companies that need someone to compose english texts.
However, in Jordan they don't pay high salaries, also, to find a job, it depends to how long you'll stay, what kind of skills or certificate you have, but in the end, being an english speaker will be a benifit.

amman is pretty expensive as i see it, i don't know the standards of the place you want to rent but a decent 2 bedroom apartment in amman would cost you from 400 to 600 USD a month depending on location.

i would suggest you utilize your english language here and apply your cv to several internationl companies located in jordan, you might be lucky and grab a better salary.
good luck and welcome to jordan
My rent was about 800 USD a month for a large apartment -- there's cheaper available. There is relief work but you will need a proper visa to work in Jordan officially. The hotels tend to have Jordanian staff (maybe the Mgr is an expat if part of a large hotel chain like Hyatt) -- Jordanians are quite well educated and there's a large unemployment problem so it would not make sense for them to hire a non-Jordanian who may not have specific skills. You can probably teach English informally.
Well, you can rent just about anywhere, I rent an apartment in Abdoun, for like7,000 a year. And if I were you, I would go to the American Embassy website right now, and apply there. Before you go. They have great pay! And can help you out greatly!
