Travel Info Is it safe to travel and work in Sierra Leone on the east cost of Africa? Travel Tips Sierra Leone is nowhere near as bad at it was a few years ago, and it's definitely better to live and work. That said, better for people who work in relief and development in post-conflict situations (NGOs, UN, donor agencies, etc.), not necessarily for just any job. I've had several friends work there through the years and they've enjoyed that experience, despite the hardships. It's still not totally safe so you do need to have your wits about you and good common sense. It has some of the best beaches on the African continent. It's in West Africa btw. Source(s): I work in international relief and development. Other Travel Tips Oh Yeah as safe as working in Iraq! No, because Sierra Leone is on the WEST coast of Africa. It's probably as unsafe as you could imagine. Check out some recent news or life expectancy (I think it's the lowest in the world). My cousin worked there for 18 months with the united nations, it was hell on earth, loads of weapons,in fighting, female genital mutilation and ritual killings. My answer would have to be no. He got a certain amount of protection being with the u.n but for Joe public it's different. Good if you want to lose weight though as all there is to eat is chicken and rice!! |
