What make the northern tier (turkey, iran, & afghanistan) different from the arab states? |
Travel Info world geography Travel Tips As others have said its mainly ethnic, cultural and Language differences... They are bound only by prevalent religion which is Islam. Its a general misconception with most westerners that Arab a synonymous to Moslem... Which is not at all true. If we consider Arab as an ethnicity, which is oubtful since Arabs themselves come from different ethnic backgrounds (in the Gulf, North Africa, Sudan or Somalia, Lebanon and Syria to mention a few are all different and mixed races) The Arab population is mainly located in the 24 Arab countries member of the Arab League, according to this definition being Arab is more like a nationality than an ethnicity. Arabs number around 350 Million, while they are mostly Moslems but they include significant minoroties that belong to other religious denominations... Mainly Christian, Jews, Druze, Maronites and others. Moslems on the other hand are the followers of a faith... Countries which adopt Islam as an official religion are the 52 members of the OIC (Organization of Islamic Countries). Moslems world wide number some 1.3 Billion, and belong to many Nationalities and ethnicities. Having said that Arabs are mainly bound by the same language and somehow similar culture conveyed by their shared history since the early arab conquest in the 7th century, while the three countries you asked for fall mainly in the larger definition of Islamic countries, and there ethnic and linguistic charachteristics are as follows. As for Turkey: ethnic groups are Turkish 80%, Kurdish 20% there is also a substantial Gagauz population in the European part of Turkey. Languages are Turkish (official), Kurdish, Dimli (or Zaza), Azeri, Kabardian. Iran: Ethnic groups - Persian 51%, Azeri 24%, Gilaki and Mazandarani 8%, Kurd 7%, Arab 3%, Lur 2%, Baloch 2%, Turkmen 2%, other 1% Languages - Persian and Persian dialects 58%, Turkic and Turkic dialects 26%, Kurdish 9%, Luri 2%, Balochi 1%, Arabic 1%, Turkish 1%, other 2% Afghanistan: Ethnic groups - Pashtun 42%, Tajik 27%, Hazara 9%, Uzbek 9%, Aimak 4%, Turkmen 3%, Baloch 2%, other 4% Languages - Afghan Persian or Dari (official) 50%, Pashtu (official) 35%, Turkic languages (primarily Uzbek and Turkmen) 11%, 30 minor languages (primarily Balochi and Pashai) 4%, much bilingualism Source(s): https://www.cia.gov/library/publications... Other Travel Tips their language, culture and rich past are quite different than the arabs For one thing, none of those countries are Arab and don't speak Arabic as a main language. Their histories were formed more under the Ottomans and Persians. Mentioned countries aren't Arab and don't speak Arabic. Turk people speaking Turkey. Iranian and Afghans speaking Persian. In compare with countries which located in Persian Gulf, Iran has a deep history and culture with more than 4000 years history and 2500 years civilization. Iranian culture is completely different with Arab countries except of some common ceremonies which related to religion. I think it's better, you study yourself. Here are some useful links: Iran: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/iran... National Geographic: http://www.nationalgeographic.com... Iran Tourism and Touring Organization: http://itto.org Iran Chamber Society: http://www.iranchamber.com They aren't Arabs for one. And two the geography there is more mountainous then in the Arabian Gulf. They aren't Arabs, they have many mountains & not much desert. |
