Has anyone here been to Libya? What's it like? |
Travel Info Any appropriate answers welcome. Thanks for your time x Travel Tips I have been to Libya. It is a wonderful country, with wondurful people. The weather in summer is unberable, but cool at night. There are many laws restricting your freedom of speech. The beach is wonderful ,and cooling. Libya also has many ancient sites in Leptis, and Sabratha, and many more left from the Romans. In downtown Tripoli, there are many soveineir shops. There is alot of smoking in Libya, and alcohol is banned. Food and gasoline is pretty cheap. In Libya, people don't care how they drive. So on a road one, car can go fast, and another can go slow. 13,000 Libyans die each year of car accidents. Traffic can get pretty congested. But if your with a tourusm company, you don't need to worry about accidents because they are really safe. Overall, Libya is a nice country. Others I haven't been myself. It's probably an exciting place to go to as many people probably haven't been there on holiday. It depends only on what you are looking for, the country have excellent sites for site seeing, major cities have the look of many mediterranean cities and people are friendly. On the down side, it is quite hard to find classy hotels, level of service there is bad and basically there is no proper tourism facilities what so ever apart from some hotels here and there. If you go there the sites you would be looking for are: Akakus mountains which are very beautiful mountains in the middle of the desert (between Libya and Algeria) which contain some prehistoric drawings, the city of Ghdames which was built with clay in a special way that makes it cool even during the summer, the cities of Sabratha and Leptis Magna which are roman cities and they were preserved from the olden times by the sand covering them, on the eastern side you have the so called the green mountain which might not look like a strange thing to you but because it is green most of the year it is special, and the ruins of the city of cyrinica which was a greek city. As the country is an islamic country drinking is not allowed so there is no night clubs or bars or anything similar, only cafes are there. All in all if you want to do some site seeing and willing to take a trip which might not be luxurious it is going to be a very good trip to make, if you are looking for anything else going to a nearby country like Tunisia or Egypt will do... |
