Can I get by in Peru or Argentina (major cities) for six months with six thousand dollars?

I would like to take spanish course there as well and preferably want to live with a family, not on my own as I would get lonely and feel somewhat anxious...is it possible to do on this dollar amount with my main expenses being, food, lodging, transportation, and spanish courses?
