Travel Tips
I always stayed in Hong Kong island when in Hong Kong. These two are easilly reachable and accessible by train. And riding train is easy to learn. In a few minutes you will be in the other island.

If you like to shop til you drop, I suggest getting a hotel in Kowloon. That way, if your hands are already full carrying shopping bags, you can easily drop them off at your hotel.

If you think you don't need this, and you will spend more time touring around, then better get a hotel in Hong Kong island.

My personal preference would always be HK Island, that's where most of the attractions are. Very easy to get Kowloon side, just hop on the MTR (tube) or the Star Ferry, both are quick and cheap. Take a look at www.asiarooms.com, you will find hotels there to meet all budgets.

I lived in HK for 4 years. I now live in Bangkok and travel to HK every month as my business is located there.
hong kong island and kowloon its not very far, its about 10 min by MTR and 15-20min by ferry. you have more choice of hotel in Kowloon than HK island.
Hotel in HK island is too expensive
