Asians etc: pacific islanders or not?

i would like to know if asians, philipinos, japanese, micronesians etc.are actually pacific islanders other than tongans etc.

Asians / Filipinos / Japanese are not pacific islanders. Inhabitants of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia are referred to as Pacific Islanders.

Melanesia means black islands. These include New Guinea (which is divided into the nation of Papua New Guinea and the Indonesian provinces of Papua and West Irian Jaya), New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, and the Solomon Islands

Micronesia means small islands. These include the Marianas, Guam, Wake Island, Palau, the Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, and the Federated States of Micronesia.

Other Travel Tips

Pacific Islanders generally refers to those in the South Pacific Islands. Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Micronesians, and even Hawaii. Most are of polynesian descent. Filipinos, Japanese, Taiwanese are generally of asian descent and so are generally not considered pacific islanders.
