It's great! I take it you are either going with the Forces or with Shell so you will be in Bandar, the capital, or Seria which is at the other end of this small country. There are a good few expats out there and the shops carry european products. The country is restrictive from a western viewpoint but more open than many muslim countries.

As a woman you will need to be respectful in how you dress and expect not to be taken too seriously - don't blame me, it's the way it is.

The weather is fantastic and the quality of life is great. You are also in a good position to visit interesting areas in the Far East. I'm very envious. Sadly, a lot of expats just spend their days moaning that they are not in England. Go home would be my message and let someone who appreciates their good fortune take over.

I think you will have a really great time if you are prepared to make the most of things. Lucky girl.

I might describe the place being like a small town in the countryside... peaceful... read BORING to some as there's practically nothing much to do except shopping at local malls, drinking coffee at Starbucks wannabe, hill trekking...

Thou it's an Islamic nation, the other cultures / religion were respected (or i should say well tolerated) as well ... While the majority are Malays, there are lots of Chinese, Indians and westerners too... It's really very peaceful and safe.
