Travel Info Where can I get a good tattoo in hong kong or japan? Travel Tips Really depends on what you want. In Hong Kong theres ricky's at wanchai, and some other ones in tst area. Ricky is probably the most well known artist in hk, his shop has been around for ages. Back in the day he mostly did tattoo's for sailors and hookers. Many expats also go, mainly because of the location, it is right in the middle of what was once the red light distrcit. Now he is getting a bit old, there are other people on his crew who are just as good. They do things pretty old school, other shops have sterilizers for their equipment whereas ricky will just put the needle over a candle flame for a few seconds. Unlike other tattoo parlours, they WILL tattoo you even if you are drunk as long as you pay and there is no age limit.... In my experience the tattoo artists in hong kong are great at doing oriental stuff (obviously) like dragons, carp, and stuff like that.. but other than that i don't think they are that good. As far as prices go, in my experience it is generally more expensive than in other places like thailand, indonesia or the philippines. My only advice for getting a tat in Hong Kong is go into the shop knowing what you want, don't count on the local artists to come up with any imaginative, custom designs for you. Like i said, they are mostly good at doing flash and traditional oriental styles.
