How do I meet people from Myanmar?

I have a great interest in visiting Myanmar and studying Thaing and teaching English, but I know internet access is pretty restricted there. I'd like to stay for a long time, maybe a couple years, so I'd like to learn more before I arrive. Any way to meet people in or from Myanmar to talk with online?

Though Internet access in Myanmar is very poor, there are several Myanmarese or Burmese, as they are called even now, who live in different countries across the globe, especially in neighboring India. They have various online forums of Myanmar expatriates and you could begin by joining one of them.

How about trying to meet someone in person. Put an ad in the paper & see if anyone responds.
