Places to VISIT in HONG KONG, Anyone? |
Travel Info Places to VISIT in HONG KONG, Anyone? Travel Tips Some sights that you shouldn't miss are: 1) Tian Tan Buddha, Po Lin Monastery, Wisdom Path (LANTAU ISLAND) -- Visit the world's biggest outdoor seated bronze Buddha. The nearby Po Lin Monastery is considered sacred to devout buddhists in HK. 2) Ngong Ping 360 (LANTAU ISLAND) -- "The Journey of Enlightenment". A 25 minute cable car ride. Great nature scenery from up there. 3) Avenue of Stars (TSIM SHA TSUI, KOWLOON) -- Pays tribute to great Hong Kong movie and television stars. You'll find many photographers there that will only charge you HK$3 for a picture. It's a great vantage of point to watch "A Symphony of Lights" Show. 4) Peak Tram and Peak Tower (HONG KONG ISLAND) -- The best place to view the magnificent Hong Kong Skyline 5) Disneyland Resort (LANTAU ISLAND) 6) Ocean Park (ABERDEEN, HONG KONG ISLAND) 7) Apliu Street Flea Market (SHAM SHUI PO, KOWLOON)- You can find brand new and second hand gadgets at a very affordable prize. 8) Temple Street Night Market (YAU MA TEI, KOWLOON) -It opens at 4 pm but really comes alive after sunset. Great place to shop for cheap men's items. 9) Tung Choi Street (KOWLOON) - Great place to shop for cheap women's wardrobe. As for transportation, Hong Kong has an efficient transportation system. You can try the MTR (Mass Transit Railway), Trams, taxis, ferries, etc. Trams, I think, are the cheapest forms of transportation in Hong Kong. Fares are only HK$2. Also, try the efficient and convenient MTR. It provides great jumping-off point for getting to leading tourist attractions. Ferries, naturally, are the only way to get from one island to another (e.g. Hong Kong Island to Lantau Island). One more thing, if you're travelling a lot, try to make use of the Octopus Card, an electronic fare card that is accepted by most forms of transportation and by restaurants and stores. It eliminates the need for change and saves time. P.S. I just pasted this one from a previous answer... Others Depending on what you are looking to do, Hong Kong offers a lot to see, There are a lot of historic sites there, shopping ( if you enjoy shopping). You can get on a ship and go to Macau for a visit. You are also near the border to enter China, but you need to obtain a visa for that. Well, there's Victoria Harbor, one of HK's most famous tourist attractions. The feeling of being there way back in 2005 still fels nostalgic. I can still remember how I felt when I first stepped on the pavement. I knew I was already in HK but when I finally saw the beautiful scenery of Victoria Harbor, the wind blowing at my face, I really felt I've arrived. You can also visit Jewelry City. If you like jewelry, then THIS is the place to go. I saw photos of famous people who've visited their factory, including Michael Jackson. Once you've seen all the jewelries they'll then treat you to a tea drink. They'll also sell them to you, encourage you how good tea is for the body, which is especially true. There's Ocean Park. It's a resort island not far from Disneyland. What do you get to see there? LOTS! Ride the cable car, eat chicken w/ fries again & again, watch the dolphin show (barely 30 mins.), visit the aquarium, & so many others! It's really up to you what do you want to do there. They'll give you the whole day to enjoy! We stayed at The Accelerator Hotel. It was quiet & clean. What was good about it was that McDonald's was just right next door! A real life saver if you don't know any Chinese food. What else? DISNEYLAND of course! Hey, if you've never been there, this is THE perfect place to start. I don't care what the detractors say. For me, it'll always be a wonderful experience being able to actually vist Disneyland. I enjoyed it a lot there & I'm coming back someday. You can try & search YOU TUBE for HK Disney videos. Their clips may give you a glimpse of what's it like there. Well, I hope this helps! |
