Wikipedia only has a short article on West Java: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/west_java... But you are in a perfect location to find out more. What I would do is find a museum in your town, or go to City Hall and ask how you can find out more about the history of your town. One thing I used to do is buy old postcards from eBay from places in Indonesia. Doing a search I found one postcard listed now about Anak Luat near Sabang.
