What is you experience of third world?

Travel Tips
I think you should reword your question. It's vague, but also offensive.

Not all of Asia is considered to be part of the "third world". Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore are all very modern nations. They are highly developed; not part of the "third world".

As for other nations, Thailand is not modernized like Singapore or Japan, but it is definitely not "third world", either. China is improving rapidly.

Often in the "third world" communities and people are more connected to one another than in developed nations, so not everything is bad...
Others
1) They hate Americans

2) They are typically Muslims

3) They have the most repressive regimes in the world.
Independent organizations and political opposition are banned or suppressed, and fear of retribution for independent thought and action is part of daily life.

4) They don't get it

After many years in the Philippines and Taiwan I would have to say there are pros and cons compared to most of my life in the States.

For one, freedom seems more at home in the third world. If by freedom you mean the personal freedom to act without interference from government.

I had cancer in Taiwan. My treatment was excellent. Doctors and nurses run to treat you. My Taiwan health insurance paid for everything.

I wouldn't have been as lucky in the Philippines. Although basic medical treatment there is free. Patients have to pay for medication.

People in both countries were generally kind. Food was excellent in Taiwan. Both had open air markets.

Both had open drainage ditches.

Computer access was available in both.

Now back in the U.S. I use dialup because where I live DSL is not available yet.
personal experience
Entertainment is really cheappppppp! Can't wait to go back to Asia.
There are many 3rd world countries; so it is hard to answer this question. I have been to Haiti and do not care to go back. I have been to the Philippines and I think it fantastic along with Vietnam, Thailand and Lao's. People are friendly everywhere if you are friendly. The food is great and the scenery is always wonderful. The only difference between 3rd world and whatever the other is, is the amount of money and money isn't everything. cheers.
