(Hey, that's me!) :o) I enquired about an internal flight in thailand(Bangkok-Surat Thani) through a travel agent online in uk,they wanted 拢150 return.I know this flight costs 1790 baht single(less than 拢30)if bought over the counter in Thailand.The only benefit booking early is youve got your seat,waiting to buy on arrival you take your chance.However,flights to tourist areas in Thailand are very frequent.For instance Bangkok to Koh Samui run about every 50 mins through the day,I think I paid about 拢35 single.Sorry I dont know anything re Vietnam.
