Money in mongolia?

i am travelling to mongolia. what can i expect price wise? i have read that the us dollar is accepted, is that true? i assume things will seem cheap to me.

No, US$ are not accepted everywhere in Mongolia but you can go to the bank or other exchange places (they have boards with the daily rates) and change your Benny Franklins into Tugrik. Don't carry too much cash with you in case you get mugged (quite possible) and stash your other cash in the hotel safe in case somebody raids your hotel room. Carry some small US$ notes with you in a safe place (hide it in your socks or shoes or somewhere) in case you walk down the wrong alley. Source(s): Personal experience

Carry American Express Travelers Cheques. In case your hotel room is robbed or you're mugged on the street,they can be replaced. Cash can't.
No, American dollars are NOT accepted everywhere there.
But you should have a stash of small US bills for the places they are. As far as sopping goes, you will find it inexpensive, but it is not my first choice for shopping in Asia.
Are you going through BEijing or ShangHai, for example?
Mongolia is a place to buy a souvenir.. but in this case, use your camera and create your own souvenirs.. something you won't want to throw out in a few years.
