Travelling to Bangkok and Singapore, which is cheapest for shopping? |
Travel Info Looking at purchasing fakes, shirts, perfume, handbags, shoes and accessories we are not sure which destination is the best value for shopping, any help would be great! The only deals to be had here are around Little India or Arab Street, (in between are open markets), but you could just go to India and save a whole lot more money. Singapore is not known for cheap shopping. Bangkok's open markets are cheap and you can bargain, but I don't think this is what you are looking for either. I live in Korea. Everyone knows to go to ShangHai or Hong Kong for the best prices. Almost any fake you see in Asia, started in China. Even ShangHai is somewhat of a "middle man", as things are made elsewhere in China but brought to ShangHai to sell to the huge ex-pat population and tourists. And go with an idea of what the real thing would cost and how much you are willing to spend. It helps me, when I go to ShangHai, to know what I have to pay for something in Seoul, then I shoot for half of that. (and they still make a nice profit.. fair for everyone) If you have to choose between Singapore or Bangkok, I would go Singapore. I ahve been to both. Bangkok has much lower quality goods. They can get away with it. The expectations in Thailand are much lower. Also, standard of living is much better in Singapore.. everything is clean and comfortable. Year-round weather is nicer as well. People are on the take in Bangkok.. you never feel at peace when you are walking the streets. Everyone wants to sell you something. Singapore is not like this. There are western style shopping malls and also outdoor markets. Restaurants are excellent & service is too. Strongly agreed with Dawn V. Things in Singapore is not as cheap as Bangkok & quality may be only slightly better. To shop for the above items you have listed. I'll suggest you to go Bangkok. Shopping mall such as Platinum & MBK have so much to offer. Platinum, in particular, is a shopping mall which you must not miss if you are looking for better quality women accessorries, shoes, bag & clothing at attractive price. Happy shopping in Bangkok! It should be Bangkok :) Thailand and Bangkok have developed into one of the best and most popular shopping locations in Asia, and with good reason. Prices are low, quality generally high and the range and variety is pretty amazing There are many places to go shopping in Bangkok, and markets and large shopping malls are spread out all over the city - you're never far from one wherever you are. east from the top of Sukhumvit road, is a modern and fashionable shopping district Siam Square is a large modern shopping area - the MBK the most masive one Though there are many markets throughout Bangkok, Chatuchak Weekend Market is still pretty much the undisputed king of them all. The scale of it is pretty unbelievable - it covers an area of 70 rai (35 acres), contains more than 15 000 shops and stalls, has over 200 000 visitors each day, If i was you - i will go to chatuchak and shop until drop. happy shopping - it's a sale time in singapore also ;) had a great time do a lot of shoping there I have only been to Bangkok, and you can do lots of shopping there. MBK was good. Not so much clothes and shoes for me (I'm tall and a bit larger girl, with big feet). But the girls i went with stocked up on everything. I really loved some of the bags in the Night Market in Bangkok, and I recommend going there, They also haggle there moreso than the Shopping Centres. Got a couple of Louis Vuitton bags there for quite cheap. (I think i got it for 30 percent of the starting price ;)). Bangkok is the cheapest, no other country is cheaper than Bangkok in that region. |
