Travel Tips Located approximately 3,300 miles West of Hawaii, 1,500 miles East of the Philippines and 1,550 miles South of Japan, the Island of Guam is the Western most territory of the United States and one of the leading tourist destinations in the Western Pacific. Guam is truly a tropical island paradise. Approximately 30 miles long and 4 to 9 miles wide, the Northern end of Guam is a plateau of rolling hills and cliffs rising to 600 feet above sea level. Waterfalls, rivers and bays yes, natives are Chamorro and Chamorra.. Links for the photos below.. I have been to Guam and lived for short years..I love the place... Other Travel Tips Guam is not in Polynesia. It's an island much closer to Japan while Polynesia is in the south pacific. Guam is in one of the Pacific Islands. Guam is in Micronesia, just 1,300 leagues east of the Philippines, Guam's people are Chamorros, who invariably came from the Philippines thousands of years ago. Guam's people, culture and language really resemble that of the Philippines. Polynesia, in turn, spans from new Zealand to Chile in the Southern Pacific Ocean. Polynesia is primarily populated by dark-skinned people who have some affinities with Australian Aborigines. Polynesia is a coral-fringed archipelagic region spannins 1/3 of the globe. If Guam is Washington state in the United States, Polynesia would be something like dots of cities from the Mexicali border to Florida... I'm Chamoru and I study my history =) |
