i'm going to china in june and will be there for a month... i have gone 4 times before

transportation is very inexpensive. train rides between cities usually range around $30-$40 US for overnight. if you eat in chinese restaurants, you can get a lot of food for about $5 US, and this is for a full dinner. If you stay in a hotel, they are usually around the same price as those in the US if you stay in the urban cities. oh, and if you don't like to try new foods, they have fastfood restaurants for slightly more than the US price
