What is ayer's rock in australia? |
Travel Info i am do`n this 4 an S.S project Travel Tips Uluru (Ayers Rock-Mt. Olga) Kata Tjuta National Park is recognised by its listing as a World Heritage Area for both its cultural and natural values. There was a Handover/Leaseback Ceremony in 1985 鈥?the Australian Government giving Uluru back to the traditional owners. The Aboriginal people and traditional owners do ask not climb Uluru because of its great spiritual significance. They have not closed the climb (the rock) but prefer that you - out of education and understanding - choose to respect their law and culture by not climbing because you are a guest on Anangu land. Tourists also steal rocks or stones taken from the 鈥榬ock鈥?Uluru for souvenirs. There has been many stories of nothing but bad luck for people that take part of Uluru away from the land. Many mail stones back to Uluru with a 'sorry' letter from all parts of the world. For photos of the handover (you may want to add some in your project) go to http://www.nla.gov.au/apps/cdview?pi=nla... Others its a big red rock in the middle of the Australian desert. u can find all u need to know on it in yahoo travel, just type it in and it will show u pics and info It's a big-*** rock. It is now called by it's aboriginal name ULURU It is a MONOLITH, which means one stone. Like an iceberg most of it is under -neath so it is a BIG stone It is situated near the centre of Australia. It is in desert where temperatures get to 38C often. The desert sand is red and the rock it-self often looks red. It is an IMPORTANT part of the Aboriginal 'Dream-time' mythology. From Wikapedia Uluru is Australia's most recognizable natural icon. The world-renowned sandstone formation stands 348 m (1,142 ft) high [863 m (2,831 ft) above sea level] with most of its bulk below the ground, and measures 9.4 km (5.8 mi) in circumference. Ulu峁焨 is notable for appearing to change colour as the different light strikes it at different times of the day and year, with sunset a particularly remarkable sight when it briefly glows red. VISITORS I haven't seen it but every-one who has seen it says it is more magnificent than photos can show and that it is easy to under-stand the Aboriginal respect for it because one can sort of feel some-thing there. YOUR PROJECT If you are doing a S.S. project look up Aboriginal 'Dream Time stories . My favourite is- The tribe were short of water and spent days looking for water and bringing it back to camp. One little boy was lazy and would not work looking for water. He said he was sick and stayed behind and drank the water. Then he hid some containers of water in a tree. Then he lied and said animals had drunk it. This kept on and the tribe was getting weak. The 'Rainbow Serpent' (a main creature of the Gods) was angry. He came in the disguise of an old man and asked the boy for water. The boy laughed and suddenly he found himself in a tree. He had become a koala bear and like all koala bears he never drank water. (Koalas get their fluid from the leaves of the eucalyptus tree which they chew on all day) Moral - always HELP the tribe or the Gods will be angry. Do come for a visit and see this WONDERFUL and strange land. First read a book called 'Down Under' written by an American called Bill Bryson the book is very funny and true. Good Luck and if you come here - WELCOME MATE. It is a significant & sacred rock to the Aboriginals. Ayers Rock goes by the name of Uluru. The Traditional Owners are Anangu people. Please respect the Traditional Owners law by not climbing. Uluru is also listed as World Heritage area. www.Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park I am a proud Australian Aboriginal |
