Has anyone ever moved to another state alone?? how was the experience?? |
Travel Info I live in perth, (Australia) and feel that the city is closing in on me, it feels too small, I'm sick of the mundane life I seem to have built for myself here, I'm 25 single, and bored with life.. I have been to melbourne numerous times in the past couple of years and every time I go for a holiday I fall in love with the city (and the person I seem to become over there) and am thinking on moving there!! but I will have no friends or anything when I get there, Will I regret the decision if I go and become more lonely?? As I don't think I could go to a pub or club on my own to meet people (I'd just feel wierd) has anyone else moved states alone before.. how did it work out?? was it easy to make friends?? or is it a lonely choice?? Travel Tips Go for it you have everything to gain!! When i was 18 i moved to the Gold Coast from Perth!!! With 5 cents in my pocket!! Literally!! I had the best time and it makes me who i am today!! Mind you i met my husband on the gold coast and brought him back to Perth and would not have it any other way!! Trust me you really do not know what is out there for you until you look for it!! And if you think in your heart and mind if its what you need/want to do, then what are you waiting for!!! Others Go for it. If it honestly makes you a better person you enjoy being, by all means, it is time for new discoveries, besides, you wont' loose your friends, It would be a better reason to get together more often. Im 21 I have moved to three dif states by myself since I was 18, I love it but Im chaseing money soo thats what makes it fun for me Im in Ohio right now, first I moved to Dallas Texas, then to Fort Lauderdale Florida, then back home to Asheville NC, now Im in Columbus Ohio. Ohio sucks badlly I'm from the U.S. and I moved to Europe, alone, over two years ago. In the beginning it was very difficult to be so far away from my family and friends. To make matters worse I didn't even know the language of the country I was moving to. It took me over six months to get used to my new home and to get a grasp on the language. During that time I also made new friends through work and I even met my wife. She is from the country that I now call home and we just got married in February. All things considered moving to a new country was one of the best things that I've ever done and I highly recommend giving it a try. If you move to a new state you'll meet new people and retain your old friends. I've actually grown closer to many of my friends and especially my family ove the last couple of years. When we see each other now it's a special occasion and you really appreciate it when you don't get a chance to see them every day. If you decide to go through with the move it WILL be difficult at first. However, if you get through that initial adjusting period it could be one of the best decisions of your life. Good luck. I moved from Canberra to Melbourne a few years ago; so here is my experience: You probably fell in love with how friendly everyone is and the beautiy of the city. I did. When I decided to move, most of my family were still in Canberra and I only knew one cousin, a girl I met in a pub in Caberra and I had a job lined up. Still, driving down there freaked me out. I thought it had been a huge mistake! I quickly found my feet, which I think was due to the following factors: - I am reasonably ougoing. - I made the best of every opportunity to meet people and follow up; without being creepy. - I lived in a good area (South Yarra and Parahn). I eventually moved, but not because I didn't love Mlb. My wife and I still go back there and love it every time. Go for it. I haven't moved states-i've moved countries! Moved from the South Island, New Zealand to South Korea! First time out of the country! I definately suggest it! The thing is if you don't like it you can move home! I'm only 21 years old and feel its one of the best things i have ever done! Have made friends pretty easy considering the language barrier-am having a blast! I would say due to the fact you are still in Australia you should get on fairly easy! Once you get a job you are bound to met people that you will become friends with and through them met others! Also join a sport or organisation that your into when you get there! Bound to help you! :) |
