Hallo New Zealand! I'm back asking questions about...?

Travel Info
...your Country. I'm italian and I'll move there in few months with my family(wife and daughter 14teen)...We prefer the Norhland for the climate. What do you think about Rotorua? We found a Bed & Breakfats for sale in that area...I need some informations if you have it:
It's a nice place to live?
What about crime, people, cost of living, gasoline, restaurant (medium level) etc.etc.
Any other suggestion will be welcomed...
Thank you very much for your help and sorry to bother you but I really don't have friend in NZ right now.

Travel Tips
Nelson - top of the south island is much better for cost of living and low crime rate. - also the sunniest place in NZ.
Better for family and your daughter. I lived there for 20 years.

The North Island has a higher rate of crime.
Heaps of B&B's there if you are looking to buy.

The combined population of Nelson region is 78,000 including the Nelson and Richmond urban population of about 50,000.

Due to its central location within New Zealand, the Nelson region has a mild Mediterranean climate. The region receives more than 2400 hours of sunshine a year and consistently rates as New Zealand's sunniest spot!

Main website for Nelson is http://nelsonnz.com

On one side of Nelson you have Abel Tasman http://www.abeltasman.co.nz and Golden Bay, http://www.goldenbay.net.nz/en/guide.htm... and the other side

In Nelson you have Nelson College for Girls
http://www.ncg.school.nz - I even went there myself - it's right in the city.
otherwise other co-ed schools for her age are Nayland School and Waimea School - further out of the city.

Good luck on your venture!

Have you been to Rotorua before? If not, you might want to visit before considering moving there as it is really smelly due to the sulphur. Its not an issue to most people but visiters we had from Australia couldnt handle it and cut their holiday short.

It is a real tourist town as it has alot of attractions there and has really beautiful scenery so the B&B idea would probably be a boomer as I dont really know if there is much else to generate income there other than tourism. Its a smaller city (compared to Auckland) but big enough and has all the conveniences that Auckland does. I think the cost of living (rent, rates etc) is cheaper there than larger cities and for some reason, gasoline was always a little cheaper there than Auckland but only by a few cents per litre. As for restaurants, there is loads for all walks and prices are similar to the rest of the country.

Now, the crime I cannot really comment on but I believe there is a bit of gang influence down that way (smaller towns - Kawerau, Murupara, Kaingaroa etc) which are just out of
Rotorua but I have never seen anything in my lifetime. I have always felt safe there and it is much like any other city/town, they all have their dark sides but unless you go looking, i'm sure you'll not see any of it.

Just with regards to your daughter, there are really good schools there. There will be a lot of Maori influences at the schools and she will probably pick up a bit of the language and culture.

Good luck....
Hi.....I lived 5 years in NZ and 3 years in Australia...when I moved to NZ I have a bit of savings and I was hoping to make a good life...but instead I have lost all my savings...but more than that I lost my health, my energy and my motivation..I ended up being depressed and felt I was so naive to make such a wrong decision...I still think if I had the oppurtunity to go back in life I would have never done that mistake...I left to Australia while everything in fron of my eyes was dark..gradullly I got better....and could make another life again in Australia...people here are more polite and have better manners..they are more educated and as long as you mind your own business they do not abuse you.....as such....but I went through a really really hard time in NZ....I went there as an international student.....I should tell you NZ is a small country...no 1 source of income is tourism and farming....nature is beautiful and breath taking and that is why most foreigners make a mistake.....people who live there of course are good in farming but good at ripping off those who are not New Zealanders....their own educated people leave because salaries are not high and it is small and not much to offer...as a student you pay a lot of money but at the end they offer jobs to their own young graduates and not you because they want to keep them there....you feel this very obviously at school the first day....they have the highest sucide rate among teenagers...sportwise most good caoches are living outside and except Rugby and Rugby no budget for anything else....health system is the worst part...most doctors I mean good specialists are in Auckland and if you get sick it is dangerous to be in their public hospitals where new graduates and south african doctors are over worked with low salary and tired...they will do you more harm than good....GPs are all fool and they charge for nothing...I was sick there the first year with a fulminent chicken pox and I went to ED department at 1 am and they charged me 100$ and just told me to go home and if my friend was not a doctor I could have died that night.....after 3 years I managed to get a job with low pay and buy a house by getting aloan from bank with the help of my family and whatever savings I had but I had so much abuse from the employers that I decided to resign and leave....I decided to sell my house and whatever I had all my furniture and my car, etc.....I asked a second hand delare to sell a few things he came and collected them from my house and then disappeared with no money...when I decided to complain to a lawyer he was worse..as long as they see you are a good prey they do the same thing because if they do not so there is nothing else to earn their life....jobs are scarce and only foreigners and their money are enriching their economy....I went to Australia..I sold the house I had in NZ and got a job again...surprisingly when I wanted to buy a fridge and washing mashine, etc....it was a lot cheaper....people in NZ, particularly in small cities like the one you are chosing have been there long to know good tricks to get your money out of your pocket....they are a bunch of rouges....If I were you I would choose Australia..It is better for your young girl too...there are a lot of Italians living in Australia and at least you will live in a healthy society...however this is my opinion and what I have gone through...you can live in NZ and feel all aspects of the society yourself....kiwis love to bring migrants in..of course not the people...everyone except main stream new zealanders are non humans..but of course they need the money for their economy...so they will tell you how good they are and how pure and clean their land is and how they are the best in the world...to make an absolute idiot out of all those naive people who decide to move there and live there.....
