Australians are dumb? |
Travel Info does anybody else hate the fact aussie film writers make us out to be dumb rednecks that live in deserts Travel Tips Don鈥檛 take this the wrong way, but I grew up in Australia. Its just fact that Australians are dumb. They have no idea about anything outside of Australia; they have no idea about geography (the even think that Holland is a country). They are known for having one of the worst education systems in the world. Most of the world sees Aussies as a joke. I鈥檓 living over here in Europe now (would never return to that desert island) but unfortunately I have an Australian accent and people think I鈥檓 Australia which I hate, as Aussie are seen as a laughing stock. Just cant wait until that accent is gone. So sorry to say, Yes Australians are dumb. Others Hi, i'm an australian living in new zealand. I must say I love it here! I came over here for a holiday and never went back. I don't know If i could. I left beacause I was over the Australian spirit. Everytime you do something great they don't congradulate you, and try and bring you down because you are better than them at something. We are not dumb we just like to knock people. Other than that, Australia's a great place to live, but I prefer nz by a mile We are pretty backward.. Our reputation abroad, particularly Europe, isn't great either. Australians are mostly known for getting piss drunk and causing havoc in public. We are like the new English, you could say. I wouldn't say we are dumb, but our work ethic isn't exactly strong, according to the immigrants that come here. But who cares, we are a rich nation, money is easy to make, whats to complain? You obviously haven't seen too many Australian films. I suggest you watch a few. There are Australian films set in the outback just as there are American films set in the wild west but most Australian films are set in cities just as the American ones are. I myself don't think Australians are dumb.Australian film writers and makers are not the only ones who portray their country and the people of their country as some thing their not in general.Alot of countries do it.I lived in Ireland for 14 years and before I left I had an image in my head of what Ireland and the people would be like mainly partly by what films I had seen that were set in Ireland.( even though my husband is Irish and was and is nothing like the way the Irish have been portrayed in films I still couldn't get that image out of my head). My goodness I in for a rude awakening. The Irish in general are nothing like how they are portrayed in films, just the same way that Australians in general are nothing like how film writers and makers portray us.I understand that film writers and makers have to exaggerate some times to get a piont across but ther is no real need to outright lie about certain things.Even after 14 years of living in Ireland and kept on telling a good friend of mine that there aren't kangaroos jumping around every where you go,when she came out to Australia for a visit 6 months ago, she was a little disappionted that when she went outside the airport it wasn't what she expected. She had expected to see kangaroos jumping around the place and Koala's in every tree.Just the same way that when I went to Ireland and went into a bar there for the first time that I thought that every Irish person in there would be playing an instrument and doing Irish jigs.At least we can laugh about each others unrealistic expectations of our first times in each others countries. struth stone the crows You haven't seen very many Australian films have you? |
