Do you know anything about SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA??????????

Travel Info
very intriuging place to me, and i almost want to just get up and move there, see what that side of the world is like.

i was mainly wondering what the cost of living is like?
how much is rent for a one or two bedroom apartment or small house near the beach?
how easy, or DIFFICULT, would it be for a young, white American male to get an average job there?
any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated, and the best answer will get a best answer.

Travel Tips
New South Wales is not as expensive as people make it out to be. When I lived in Sydney (up until this year) I had a 2 bedroom apartment, no far from the beach, 10 min from the City Centre, was a Penthouse, Swimming Pool, Gym and Sauna in the complex and the rent was only $420 a week.

It is very easy to get a job in Sydney.

Before you come though, you will need a Visa, so you should look at applying for a Visa and see if you can meet the criteria in any category first, before you plan any move, as you cant just move to Australia, you need the Visa first.

Here is the Australian Immigration Website

Hi there

It is quite expensive to live in New South Wales, rent is quite dear. I don't know how much because i live in Western Australia which is a lovely clean and clear state with plenty of parks and bushland, and lovely beaches. Probably cost about $400 - $500 AUD per week to be by the beach. it would be easy for you to get a job here, there are plenty going.

Anything you want to know please feel free to ask. You could get into real estate sites for aust., that should be able to help.

regards
Kaye
Is it New South Wales you are asking about? If so, New South Wales is a very large state of Australia. I'm assuming you are asking about Sydney.

Sydney is Australia's largest city, approximatley 4.5 million people call it home.

To rent in Sydney is becoming quite difficult, and expensive. To get an idea, take a look at www.realestate.com.au. Search some suburbs like Cronulla, Helensburgh, Heathcote, Hurstville.

In Australia, it doesn't matter if you're white, black or asian, you will be treated fairly by most, so that does not have any effect on your gaining employment. There is a skills shortage in Australia at the moment, take a look at www.seek.com.au (Job site) to see what's available.

Hope this information is helpful.
no place called SOUTH WALES here so you don't know bugger all about Australia it it seems to me so till you know a little more DO NT COME HERE but when you do come on down & see a great country & meet a lot of intresting people
Hi, do you mean New South Wales? Im guessing you do. In any case, I used to live in NSW and now I live just 5 minutes away :) Re cost of living, it totally depends where you live. You could live in a waterfront home in Sydney, and the price could be anything from a few million for something in the southern suburbs, to over 15 million for something near sydney harbour. and thats just sydney. you could also live down near the snow fields, out in the country, up north near queensland, it totally depends what kind of environment you are after. Australia is a large country with lots of different environments, all with different living expenses. In the same city you could experience total differences in living expenses in different areas. I know you have said you want to live near the beach, but what im saying is, it completely depends where you want to live. some places would be cheap, and some would be expensive. I live right on the beach 5 minutes North of the NSW border in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment and it is $350 a week, but you will get differing prices everywhere you go. What type of work do you do? You would have to get a working permit for Australia and Im not sure how easy that is for Americans as it is hard for Australians to get work permits in the US. If you have any more details, or questions, let me know,
previous resident of NSW, now live 5 minutes away
You would have no problem getting a job but you will have to see an Australian consul about visas and work permits (like a green card) first. Don't know where you live but there are are several Australian consulates in the USA. Search it on the net - they give street and mailbox addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addys.

Rents vary a lot in New South Wales, the state is much bigger than Texas but any place near a beach will cost extra.

You may find that pay rates are lower than in the USA but a lot of things are a bit cheaper so that probably works out OK.
