Going to Cairns in mid-August? |
Travel Info Is August a good month to visit North Qld? Temperatures might be mild, still is it a good time to swim? What about the Quicksilver Cruises exploring the Great Reef Barrier, is it worth it? Thanks for any suggestion. Travel Tips I live in Cairns - and yes any time is a good time to visit.... More tourists generally travel to Cairns during the winter months, not only for the nice weather, but because of the stinger-free waters. I would recommend the Great Adventures for a trip out on the reef - Been there done that about 4 times now in the past 2 years. Great if you want half day or full day tour of the reef. One day trip - A trip out on the reef to Green Island http://www.greenisland.com.au with - http://www.greatadventures.com.au... or right out on the Outer Reef Activity Platform - with buffet lunch - well worth it ! If you are really keen to experience something really different try the scoobdo - http://www.scubadoocairns.com or seawalker http://www.seawalker.com.au - all great experiences there is half day trips or full day. Other things to do ::::::: A trip to the Aboriginal Culture Park http://www.tjapukai.com.au and on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. http://www.skyrail.com.au (same car park, right next door to each other) The skyrail takes you up to the rainforest village of Kuranda. http://www.kuranda.org - or take the skyrail up one way and train back down to the city. Kuranda Scenic Railway http://www.ksr.qr.com.au Port Douglas is about a 50 min drive from Cairns city 鈥?worth it for the scenery. http://www.portdouglaseguide.com... or http://www.vcentres.com.au/port-douglas... There are more than 30 beaches between Cairns and Port Douglas alone, and most of them past Ellis Beach are practically deserted. Daintree Discovery Centre 鈥?Walking in the rainforest etc - http://www.daintree-rec.com.au You must do a bungy jump while here - http://ajhackett.com.au For more great sites on what to do in Cairns http://www.cairnsvisitorcentre.com... As has already been said, August is a fantastic time to go to Far North Queensland (FNQ). i lived in Cairns for over 20 years and just recently moved to the US...i miss home so much that i am totally jealous of you for going there. i would be taking a trip this year myself, by my husband and i decided to have another baby so flying for 24+ hours is not my idea of fun.... im about to take my three year old out, but would love to answer your question when i get home... ps...K Bear has some great answers...ill try and tell you about other things... pps...how long are you staying for??? |
