Is Papua New Guinea a popular destination for residents in Australia and New Zealand? |
Travel Info If not, why? Travel Tips No. It has a reputation for lawlessness. I have no idea if the reputation is deserved. Others I guess it is probably cause its cheap and close to home and beautiful islands and people i have never known anyone to go to PNG for a holiday. there isnt the infrastructure there like most other places for a beachy holiday. No - there is much better places for a Holiday - I have heard of so many horror stories from PNG. I had a mate work there as a bodyguard for someone and it was not good... ! The only people I've known who travelled to PNG for holiday time went there to walk the Kokoda Trail or Track. People do this trek in rememberance of the soldiers who fought and died there in World War Two. . The 96 km Kokoda Trail passes through rugged mountainous country of rainforest, jungles of fern, orchids, birds and clean mountain streams which tumble into steep valleys. It was where one of the bloodiest campaigns of World War II was fought 61 years ago. I've known many who have gone to work in PNG. These days, most are men and they don't take their families. It can be a very dangerous place to live particularly in the large towns. http://www.kokodatrail.com.au/ Good question. As already noted - most people from Aust and NZ go to PNG for NON-work reason, go there for the Kokoda Trail. As a holiday destination, it is not a recommended place as most of us here think it is NOT a safe place for a holiday. |
