My 5 year old wakes up ith cramps in his leg.? |
Travel Info My 5 year old son, wakes up in the middle of the night at least once a week with cramps in his leg. Usually it is his calf mucsle that is cramping, but it can also be his thigh. l have to sit a rub it for him for a while until the pain stops. l know that it is growing pains, but what can l do to stop them. Travel Tips Talk to your doctor, but get him to eat more potassium. That's a usual cause of cramps. Although I also suspect growing pains. Others Sounds like it could be dehydration. Give him a banana before bed each night and no more cramps! I don;t know just keep doing what your doing is probably the best bet. My oldest daughter went through growing pains, too. I never could find anything to help--she just had to grow out of them. It makes for a helpless feeling when your child is in pain, and there is nothing you can do about it. I wish i had an answer for you. On the upside, it usually only lasts for a few months. Best of luck to you. Try giving your child potasium vitamins. Lack of potasium can cause muscle cramps. It worked for my son at that age be sure and check to see how much of the recomended daily allowance the vitamins have. Do not try to give 100% of the RDA potasium also affects the heart in large doses. try one pill for 7 or 8 days they are usually a low % it will take several days for the body to start absorbing the vitamins so be consistent for a week or 2. Potassium deficiency, typically, although other electrolyte deficiencies can cause cramps. If you're seriously worried, please see your physician to possibly get a blood test to see where he could possibly be deficient. Hopefully this helps a little bit so your little guy can feel better and sleep through the night. Having had plenty of leg cramps myself (although for a different reason), I can understand how much you want to get this solved. Best of luck. :) |
