Ethonal in Australia?

Travel Info
I am wondering if any 1 can please tell me why ethonal has not been accepted in Australia yet?
In Brazil and the USA ethonal has been accepted more than here in Australia.
If Australia did take on ethonal fuels our price for fuel would be much cheaper than what it is now.

Travel Tips
Most service stations here in Australia have E10 which is 10% ethanol. Car manufacturers recommend that no more than about 15% be used in cars built for petrol because it tends to dissolve or soften plastics used in seals and gaskets, which can lead to lots of fuel leaks in every car. It also produces much less energy per kilogram than petrol or Diesel fuel.

E10 makes the fuel pumps on my car noisy so I don't use it.

I would like you to defend your statement that ethanol would make fuel cheaper. It is very energy intensive to produce and the overall energy balances and cost benefit analyses are extremely doubtful. There is no strong evidence either way, but from what I can make out I don't think ethanol is the way to go. It makes more sense to convert to Diesel engines and use a proportion of vegetable oil in the fuel.

It has been said that if the entire vehicle fleet of the USA were run on ethanol all the farming land would be used up in producing it and the population would starve.
