Where is the best place for me to live in australia?

Travel Info
I need affordable housing, I want to be close to the ocean, i want to actually be able to go in the ocean and not get killed by some poisonous fish or a shark or something, I want to be able to surf, and kitesurf, mountain bike, I don't want to live in a small town, but it doesn't have to be giant either, and not a lot of traffic, and i don't want to be somplace with no trees, i like rainforest.

Travel Tips
You have described Cairns in North Queensland in a nutshell. Population approx 130,000
http://welcometocairns.com.au

http://www.tropicalaustralia.com.au/thin...

30 + beaches and tropical lifestyle surrounded by rainforest. Great Barrier reef on your doorstep for diving and exploring.
Yes there is a jellyfish 鈥榮eason鈥?November until May, as does anywhere in the tropics. You can swim all year round but there is huge safety nets to swim in. Only 1-2 cases a year of people getting stung, so don鈥檛 think it鈥檚 a daily occurrence! More chance of a shark attack in Perth or Sydney.
Kite surfing is very popular at Yorkeys Knob Beach - http://www.yorkeysknob.com

Kite surfing - http://www.cairnsattractions.com/a_kite-... - there is a club around somewhere 鈥?I see their van with sign writing on it some weekends.
Cairns is not small, but no where near as huge as Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane etc. We have no overhead motorways, traffic jams or huge skyscrapers. Very laid-back city. http://www.cairnsinfo.com/region_guide/i...
Accommodation can be pricey in the beaches area.. cheaper in town 鈥?it really depends on how you want to live, house, unit, apartment etc鈥?
Huge areas of mountain biking in the rainforests up here.

You want Port Macquarie, on the NSW east coast - its got everything you are asking. population 40'000. There is less dangerous waterlife than in the tropical waters in Queensland(although the sea is a dangerous beast no matter where you swim in the world). You can Kitesurf, surf, moutain bike, bushwalk, visit wineries, the whole works. Sydneysiders like me go there on holiday. It has lots of a trees and a beautiful rainforest area called Sea Acres (check it on the web). It is warm but not too hot, and the people are nice and civilised, unlike in some more remote coastal areas where there tend to be a lot of inbred type-of-folk
Perth WA or somewhere down south like Margaret River that has world class surf...they hold some of the Pro Tour surfing there. Unfortunately anywhere you live...there are dangerous things in the ocean...be they sharks or box jelly fish etc....but if you are serious about surfing like my hubby is...you wouldn't care anyway! (Which I think is a little crazy but thats him in a nutshell!) There are plenty of mountain bike tracks out in the bush south of the city...about 30 minutes from where we live that my hubby likes to ride on...they are through the forest (although there are no rainforests here as it is a cold climate.) If you want rainforest your best bet is Queensland somewhere.
Gosford ,NSW
Wevegot it all.
Sydney 1 1/2 hrs away
Newcastle 1 1/4 hrs away
beach 15 mins away
bush,mountains 10 mins away
affordable housing ($ 150-200 for a new 2 b/r flat)
I live here & wont leave
You have described the Gold coast!

There are no poisous jelly fish unlike in Cairns K-BEAR!
you would have more of a chance getting killed by a car accident more so than anything in the ocean

besides the nasties come out in summer and all the way down the coast Doug!

your a fool Doug! of course you get poisonous jellyfish that sting your @ss off down the Gold Coast ya numb nut!

I know I used to live and swim there many yrs ago!

I tend to agree with K Bear - we have the rainforest that meets the sea here, why dont you try where I live Flying Fish Point - small country town outside major cities and you have the best of both worlds

and we have rain up here not like Gold Coast - its dry
