I'll go to dunedin on exchange? |
Travel Info i am going to dunedin next week and i need some tips how is the wether there. is it expensive to travel in new zealand i also would like some general info about the city people, life style, etc, i'll apreciate your posts thanks Travel Tips It is cold in dunedin. Very cold. Especially at this time of the year. Bring/buy gloves, scarves, woolly hats etc. Also many houses are old and fairly cold, so you'll probably need lots of blankets etc for your bed, but if you're staying in a hostel/appartment/hotel you'll most likely be ok. A shuttle from the airport to dunedin city is around $20. You can mainly walk around once you're in town, and everything's fairly cheap. The city is mostly full of students. You'll fit in if you like to drink a lot. Others It will be cold but not too bad, well nothing below -10 The people are friendly and the life style is relaxed Dunedin does not have the best weather in the world I have to say.....but as pointed out, its not utterly freezing. Travel, I would say is reasonably expensive compared to other countries, but if you have a good exchange rate it won't be too bad. Lifestyle will be relxed, espcially as Dunedin is considered the student capital of New Zealand with over 10% of the population being students (mainly from Otago University)...which are called "scarfies" (as they wear scarves...cold weather) Dunedin does have reasonably good access to skiing and places like Queenstown (adventure capital) and has good surfing off the beach at Dunedin. Dunedin has about 100,000 people and quite a scottish influence, but it has some pretty buildings as its one of the oldest in New Zealand. If you get the oppurtunity to get involved with things (especially sport!!!) you should enjoy it. Hi from Dunedin. Your arrival will be just in time for the annual polar plunge, when hundreds of people will gather at the beach for a mid winter swim. Bring your swimsuit and be prepared to freeze your butt off. At this time of year we get some really good frosts -5C an Tuesday, but after such a frost we have a crisp sunny day and the temperature may get up to 10C. We are a relaxed sort of people down here, friendly and open. The link below will give you some good views and more info. Welcome http://www.cityofdunedin.com/city/?page=... |
