Travel Info it is hot all year round like you can go swimming all year round correct? Travel Tips I grew up in Cairns and only just left in December of 06 to move to the US...Im so homesick, I dont know if I will see the year out in the US... As far as the weather goes, it can get a little chilly during the winter months (June to September) but never to the point of full winter clothing...jeans is about all you might need, maybe a light coat or sweater... Swimming is possible all year round...but not in the ocean, as from November to May there are stingers (jelly fish)...they are very dangerous and have been known to cause death. You can swim within the stinger enclosures at the beach but after being stung within an enclosure when I was 12 I have never swam at the beach in those months... You can however swim at the many freshwater rivers, creeks and waterfalls in the region. Some of my favorites are Fairy Land at Crystal Cascades, Mossman Gorge and Ross-n-Lock. I actually prefer to swim at these places as the water if fresh and clean and so refreshing on summer days that can get very hot and humid... I love Cairns, miss it every day and cant wait to go home. Its a beautiful place with the ocean on one side and tree covered mountains on the other three sides....if you get a chance to visit Cairns then I would so go for it... Others Cairns winter is like Canadian summer & their summer is super hot & humid. If you are accustomed to swimming in Canada... there should be no problem for you swimming any time of the year in Cairns. p.s. in some areas you have to be aware and avoid "blue bottles" (a type of stinging jellyfish) . well currently while south east queensland is plunged into tempratures ranging in the single figure cairs is still topping a minimium of 24 degrees celcius- in short yes you can still swim all year around but dont expect blood warm water generally the water tempratures in winter are aroung 21 degrees me a queensland travel agent the last 9 years and counting... also dived off cairns in june 2 years ago... |
