What's a good cheap way to spend the mid-year holidays?

Travel Info
I'm a college student living in Melbourne (Australia) who's on a 4 week break between semesters. I can't decide what trips or activities I should partake in that won't break the bank. Any ideas?

Thank you.

Travel Tips
did you want to stay in melbourne or head north where it's much warmer and sunnier.
join the yha & travel north to qld & stay in hostels - like at airlie beach.
cost $23/night multi share
you can get cheap flights with virgin - as low as $229 to hamilton island - then get ferry to airlie. Source(s): www.virginblue.com.au
