How much can young tourists earn in the fruitpicking areas of Australia? |
Travel Info Back packers under 30 can get work visa,s... Is it an hourly rate or by weight.. Travel Tips The hourly rate for fruitpicking is around $14 to $16 before tax at the moment. You can also do fruitpicking by 'piece work' which means you get paid on how many buckets, cases, bins that you fill etc. For example, $20 per bin for citrus fruit. The rates for this vary with the type of work done. Its pretty common to work for 'piece work'. I did fruitpicking in Australia on and off for a couple of years in the mid 1990s and half the time I was paid by 'piece work'. You can make reasonably good money to very good money depending on how fast and efficient you are, it just takes a few days to get used to it before you make reasonable money. This web site had some fruitpicking jobs advertised for Australia and some adverts included approximate wages and working conditions: http://www.pickingjobs.com/search.php?jo... Another site which has fruitpicking jobs advertised is: http://jobsearch.gov.au/harvesttrail/def... Good luck! |
