This depends on where in New Zealand you are choosing as there are some parts of N.Z that is so far apart in all aspects so i presume you would be referring to either Auckland or Christchurch.I am from Sydney & i have spent time in N.Z & i must say they are very different from each other.While both are very beautiful i must say that Sydney has the upper hand to any part of N.Z & i base this on the lifestyle,climates,accesabilit... to all things that a person needs in life.Although N.Z is cheaper to live as in land,homes,good's & services i think that this just means travelling to N.Z is great for people in Australia as thing are cheap for us because of the currency exchange,& i am not saying it would not be nice to live there but ultimatly it all comes down to your own preference.Both are the best in the Southern Hemisphere. I went to Sydney for the Olympics & even though it was full it was great.

NZ last Xmas
Aukland - dull. Forget it.
Christchurch - OK for a week or so.
Queenstown - heaven on earth. First full day there, I wanted to move there. It's truly gorgeous.
Let me answer again. New Zealand is not a city.
Do you come from a big crowded filthy dirty city? If you do and want more of the same then definitely Sydney. Sydney has lots of crowds and activities and things to do, and Christchurch just isn't as big and dirty. You can probably guess that I don't live in Sydney, but I did and don't want to again, the crowds were too big, the queues too long, the public transport a mess and the car travel a nightmare.

I've visited Christchurch and thought it was pretty good, but I think it would be too cold for me to live there.
