Hi there,
Just would like to know if the English are generally liked in Australia? I know we are known as winging poms *LOL* Only time I moaned whilst in Australia was having to come back to uk!
I would appreciate truth.
When we go to Australia we appreciate the country and people and go with an open mind. We are in awe of your country.

We do not like people who moan about; 1 no professional soccer, 2 beer is too cold, 3 black puddings are hard to find, 4 too hot, 5 no fry ups in greasy spoon cafes, 6 too far between x and y, 7 chip butties are not though of as real food etc etc etc.

We don't like people who tell us how things "should" be done. Despite the fact that they are new arrivals, WE did not come down in the last shower and for any septic tanks who may be reading, we don't get about in grass skirts and live in mud huts either.

As for the convict thing, transportation ended in 1860. During the gold rushes of the 1850s, more free people arrived in two years than all the convicts that had been sent in the previous 70 years. That means there are more UK people recently descended from 19th century convicts. We do get a little tired of hearing about it from the ignorant.

Whether or not you are generally liked depends on you, not your nationality.

Just asked my Aussie partner...he said Aussies do like Brits. but we moan too much! I have to admit that I whinged a fair bit in Australia "Too Hot"" "Too many killer bugs" "Crappy clothes" No heating in winter despite the fact that temps really drop over there...so yes I whinge and am a pom...

I reckon they're a bit tougher than us...face facts they are all decended from crazed loaf nicking burgalars so it's only to be expected!

Yes the English are generally liked in Australia. Like anywhere in the world - no matter the nationality of the person - if they are going to be constantly whinging, moaning and complaining, they are not going to be liked. We generally take the person pretty much as they come - to a certain degree, and cerainly have our own share of whiners moaners and the like..

Pom who lives in Australia and can't stand negativity and ignorance, especially from Americans.
Aussies always have the country rivalries in us but we also have a very accepting side to us aswell. So if your somebody we can have a good time with and can call a good mate then your welcome here anytime.
