Which months are cold in Australia? Does it snow there? |
Travel Info If it depends on the city please be specific and name or address which cities get snow too and for how long and which time of the year....? Travel Tips Hi there, the cold months in Australia are June July and August. It doesn't snow in any of the capital cities, it only snows at high altitudes during the cold months. Anywhere that is on the Great Dividing Range, which are the mountain ranges down the east coast eg, Katoomba, Threadbo, these remote places get snow. But I lived in the Sydney metropolitan area my whole life and never saw snow until I went to New Zealand. In fact I've never experienced snow in Australia. You will only find it if you seek it out (at high altitudes). Others it barely ever snows there It is winter now, for those who don't know! June, July and August are the coldest months. It's cold now at night in the southern part of the country, but during the day it's still in the mid-20s celsius. Beautiful! It snows in places that are at a high altitude, in particular in the Snowy Mountains region - Australia has a booming ski industry which is right now in full swing. I live on the coast and it doesn't get cold enough to snow here, but only three hours' drive inland it has been snowing heavily. This year in many parts of the country it's colder than it has been for a long time, perhaps ever. With refence to cricketnutoz's comment about being cold, he's quite right. Here in the southern parts of WA (as opposed to Broome or Karratha etc) we have had an even worse lack of rain than previous years and that is as a result of the lack of rain clouds which keep the warmth in - which in turn manifests itself in some very chilly (by our standards) nights. |
