I just read the words to Waltzing Mathilda? |
Travel Info Can somebody please explain what in the world is it about? Travel Tips It's about a man who takes all his belongings into a wrapped roll calling this "Matilda" just to give it a name. This man had a rest at a water hole when a sheep came by. As he was so hungry he grapped this sheep and put it in a bag (must have been a large bag though...). Then a wealthy man and owner of that sheep plus the police were searching for that sheep and asked this guy at the water hole to give them the sheep. But this bloke didn't want to and said he'd rather drowns in the water hole (billabong) - so he did. And since then his ghost may be heard when you pass by the billabong -"you'll come awaltzing Matilda with me..." Actually a very sad song but it's Australia's "secret" anthem.
