Anybody want to swap stories about Australia and UK ? |
Travel Info I would love to hear from maturish (is there such a word ?) person to swap stories with about lifestyles, and differences between the two countries but no cricket please as i only follow premiership football, thank you, uk resident. Travel Tips I am a ten bob pom came here with my family when I was 7 and I remember in kindergarten in England they had this picture to identify and we couldn't it turned out to be Christmas in Australia from that moment I knew I was meant to be an Aussie. This year on Christmas eve my cousin and his wife visited from England and we sat down beach with a bottle of wine, cheese and bickies and went swimming at sunset and I remembered that picture. We live about 100 metres from the Indian ocean and our lifestyle is laid-back a bit like us and I am so grateful my parents decided to come so far across the world for their kids future but my dad still barracks for the Gunners and Gillingham. Its funny I ended up marrying an Aboriginal man and I use to tease my children they were half pom and half original Aussies. I would like to go back to Kent where I born for a visit but I this is my home and my cousin is very envious and wants to move here. Others No Cricket!! Mate, thats a crime against all Aussie-ism.... umm... differences.... umm... you're a pom and i'm an aussie... we have bright sunny days even in winter but you have miserable showers... too bad we need the rain... We have a huge great rock in the middle of our land and you have a great pile of pebbles standing up in the middle of a field somewhere (Stonehenge). Bron in the Philippines but'll always belong to the Land Down Under. OK, I'm an Aussie (maturish) and I've lived here my whole life, in three different states. I've travelled to UK. I hate cricket. When I came home after visiting UK, the things I really noticed about Oz were our messy drab gardens (compared to your magnificent colourful gardens and tidy fences) - things just seemed really dull and untidy here after seeing your gardens. I quickly became acclimatised to the Aussie way and within a few weeks I didn't notice that anymore! I'd say that we get out more and spend less time indoors than you fellows, we are more relaxed about our jobs and less stressed about life in general. Our kids look healthier. Our food is similar (perhaps with more vegies though). Shops are similar, except you have more of them. Your highways are better, rest stations are terrific, signage is excellent and your roundabout manners need a bit of work. Your pubs are darker and you have more of them. You English folk don't seem to appreciate what an amazing history you have in your own backyard, and us Aussies don't realise what we're missing out on with history, until we visit UK or Europe. I loved UK, and want to return as soon as I can. There's so much I missed out on seeing, but I adored York, Salisbury, London, Gloucester and Cambridge. |
