Cairns, what kind of night life or what do they do at night for fun? |
Travel Info Cairns, what kind of night life or what do they do at night for fun? Travel Tips i disagree...i went there and had a great time. gilligans is the main place to go,and if youre used to big cities its kinda small, but theres also the woolshed and some other places...yes they close at 3am, which for oz is quite early, but for every other place ive lived is quite late compared to the 1am curfew in prov, ri where i am now, so its all relative. that guy shouldnt be complaining about one of the most fun places(although i am kinda partial to townsville cause thats where i lived...stuffs closed at 5am there) and as for hard to find cabs when clubs close...where is that not a problem? id like to know... Others I have lived in Cairns for 5 years and have given up on going out at night, in fact if I could get a job transfer I will be out of this place forever. This city seems to be controlled by a council that works 9-5 and have no idea of the broader picture. They don't encourage night life here and if you do go out don't expect a good time. For a tourist city they do as much as possible to make your night life difficult. We have a curfew in place which means at 3am thats it, everything shuts down then of course everyone is on the street trying to find a cab and there is never enough which leads to fights and bashings. The club bouncers are brutal and usually try to cause fights rather than protect. Drinks are very expensive compared to other cities in Australia. During the week nothing happens, some clubs are open but very quiet. The weekend is ok and there is a mix of locals and back packers/tourists. Smoking is banned in all clubs, hotels and restaurants, even outside, for me thats bad but for others it's a good thing. There aren't many places to go, one big club has closed down. The most popular places are Troppo's, Woolshead, PJ Obriens or Mad Cow. There is one gay bar called Nu-Trix which can be fun. Don't even try to enter these places intoxicated, they will turn you away. The Woolshead can get quite wild and it's where most of the back packers go. Eating out is expensive, especially along the Esplanade. This city has changed, it's not fun any more. Most of the locals usually party at home with a BBQ and beer, it's more fun. |
