Travel Info What caused water levels to rise to seperate rottnest island from Western Australia? Travel Tips Thousands of years ago Rottnest was connected to the WA coastline and would have been close to where the mouth of the Swan River would have entered the Indian Ocean. The seperation of Rottnest Island from the mainland occured as a result of warmer sea temperatures melting the polar ice caps resulting in a rise in sea levels globally. Others I have 2 theories, 1. a large drop of water was cast up on the earth which raised sea levels dramatically cutting off this gem from the mainland in the process.... 2. Climate change in conjunction with a ever changing earth surface.... some how theory 2 seems to hold more water- pardon the pun... lol |
