I noticed in Australia, everyone drinks beer (well, lager) out of girly sized glasses called Schooners. Why? |
Travel Info This was in Sydney, Byron Bay, Brisbane, Cairns, Port Douglas etc. Incidentally, Sydney has no pubs at all really. Kings Cross was supposed to be lively, but it was empty and had only a few bars. Has it always been like this?! Travel Tips Bloody hell mate, with the conversion from pound to Oz dollar you got the schooner for around 1 pound....but good to see you lived up to the stereo type and still found something to whinge about. Others coz aussie's are whimps! I worked in Australia years ago and it might now have changed but the reason given to me for drinking cold beer from small glasses was so that the beer didn't have time to heat up. The schooner is an old measurement that is about a 1/3rd of a pint (I think) and is more usually used when drinking sherry This might be right ;-D You are nuts! I lived in Sydney for a year and a half. You get your drugs at Kings Cross. You get your Tooheys or Victoria Bitter at the "corner" Pub. And there is literally one on every corner. We call them "pints" because they come in pints sized mugs not schooners. I think its so the lager doesnt get hot, They dont drink it like its going out of fashion like the english do.. so it if its in a pint glass its got more chance of getting warm!! No one wants thats Its too hot for pints. Schooners will stay cold while you drink them. I lived in Sydney for 2 years it does have pubs, you just have to look a bit deeper. the german pub in the rocks is good, actually most in the rocks are good. Other then that look to the subs for a real drinking pub. |
