The outback of australia?

Hi, I am American and typing a report. Does it make sense to make a general comment like "from the streets of california to the outback of australia, he has performed". Or is outback a town? If it's strictly a town and not a general description of australia, then I don't want to include it. Please let me know how to say this properly or a better way to describe the country. It's getting really late and I need to get some rest but I have to finish this first. THANKS SO MUCH!

The term "outback" is generally used to refer to locations that are comparatively more remote than those areas deemed "the bush". The outback is not an official term.

The outback is, in the middle of nowhere, beyond the black stump, out the back of Bourke.

If it were me, I'd change it to the Australian outback instead of outback of Australia.
But that's just me.

The Outback is NOT a town, it is an area.
It's a general description. Some people say "Sydney or the bush". In short, it means any fairly remote area of Australia, maybe 400 miles inland from the east or south coast, and points further west. Your phrasing seems good.
I was born in (not quite) the Outback.

your phrasing is correct if the subject performed in rural asutralia.
"outback of Australia" is fine.

As long as you DO NOT, please please please, use "OZ" like so many do here on Y!A. It might be "popular" but it is bordering on "insulting" and "ignorant" of the word "Australia" or "Aust" . (And it is NOT "Ozzie". It is "Aussie")
you could fit all the land from the west coast through to about Missouri into the Australian Outback, it is a whole lot of nothing and very big.
