Whats the New Zealand Fishhook Necklace called?

Travel Info
Ok, when I was backpacking around Europe I saw all the New Zealanders wearing these cool necklaces. There was like a big white carved looking fishhook dangling from a necklace. Anyone know what is called? If it helps, I think Jeff Probst wears one on Survivor.

Travel Tips
The fish hook (In Maori - Hei-Matau) necklace is a common design in New Zealand, usually made from bone, greenstone (Pounamu) or the shell of the Paua (a type of abalone).

These stylised fish hooks represent strength, prosperity, abundance, fertility and a great respect for the sea. They are also said to provide good luck and safety when travelling over water so are often worn by travellers.

Hei-Matau are also symbols of power and authority which are held in great reverence by the Maori people. They were used as a practical tool for fishing and were often decorated as a sign of respect for the creatures of the sea. There are many styles of Hei-Matau from the true hook designs to the more ornamental styles which became treasured heirlooms for generations following.

I found this page with a search on google it gives all the meanings of the pendants and carvings. Hope it helps. http://www.silverfernz.com/maori_pendant...
